The Muppet Movie: The Musical will air on Netflix starting October 6.
It’s a special edition of the musical, with a new ending, new characters and a new song.
The new episodes will be available in theaters nationwide and online beginning October 6, the company announced.
“This is a major milestone for us, as we now have the first season of the Muppet movie, which will be the first time Muppets can be seen on the big screen in over 30 years,” Universal Pictures President Michael Eisner said in a statement.
“We’re excited to bring the Muppet to the bigscreen for the first and only time.
We’re looking forward to sharing the magic of Muppeteers in the MUDs that you’ve never seen before, and all the wonderful stories that the M.U.B.E. story will tell.
We can’t wait to share the Muddy Waters and The Muppeting Company.”
The Muppettes return to Broadway in 2017 for their Broadway debut.
The show’s first season was filmed on a small, rented lot at Paramount Studios in Burbank, Calif.
The cast, crew and the studio were all relocated to New York in 1977 and 1978.
In addition to The M.P.S., Universal is releasing a number of new movies.
The M.O.P., a sequel to Muppet Treasure Island, is set to open in 2018 and will be directed by the same filmmaker who made the original film.
